Many who have seen in recent weeks have been asking, “Meg, how do you stay so curvy?” It’s time to divulge my secret: the all-carb diet. After posting earlier about the annual competition to name the best baguette in Paris, I began researching a longer article for Budget Travel. By “researching,” I of course mean eating bread. My particular brand of gluttonerdery compelled me to analyze, using a spreadsheet, the performance of bakeries in this competition over several years. I selected the bakeries with the most top ten prizes, and paid them a visit to better understand their carbolicious wares.

The winner: the best baguette in Paris is from Djibril Bodian at Le Grenier à Pain

A twittering birdie has just revealed that Djibril Bodian from Le Grenier à Pain in Montmartre has won the 2010 Grand Prix de la Baguette de la Ville de Paris.
Bodian, a Senagal-born baker who grew up in Seine-Saint-Denis, is no stranger to awards. He earned a 5th place ranking in the 2009 competition and 4th place in 2007. Bodian was also one of only a handful of bakers to earn a 3/3 rating in the Palmarès 2005 (most recent) guide to Paris boulangeries.

Every year, in a closed chamber on the Ile Saint-Louis, a panel of carb-loving judges select the Best Baguette in Paris. The top ten winners of this annual contest – the Grand Prix de la Baguette de Tradition Française de la Ville de Paris – are listed below.
