Hi Laidback, my understanding is that the wine bar doesn't take reservations. There were plenty of seats available on Friday night, but I suspect this will change as more people learn that they are open. I hope you enjoy your dinner on the 21st!

Is the downstairs 1st come-1st served or can you make reservations? We reserved for dinner on the 21st at the restaurant after reading your and Phyllis' critiques, and I guess we can get all the particulars then if you are too busy.

Agree with David... this situation is the anti-french. Aren't they supposed to get all huffy when you WANT to order? I thought waitpeople had a natural aversion to work? Me = confus-ed.

PS - You don't enjoy eating your fish with chocolate cake? Pfffff.

Interesting. This is exactly the feeling I had at Thomas Keller's Bouchon in LA. It wanted to be French but it had a really hard time finding out how to manage the American ideal of turning over tables and the French ideal of resto.

I had dinner at Aux Lyonnais in 2006, when it was at the peak of its hype, and even with decent service, I thought it was 100 euros badly spent because I didn't think the food was 25-euros-a-main good.

I agree with David's comment that the servers you encountered at Aux Lyonnais weren't so much "American" in style as much as in target (because even in America, I'd think that sort of pressurized, rushed service would be considered rude, and I think of service in the US as pretty good).

With its location near the Bourse, maybe Aux Lyonnais gets a lot of impatient business types?

What a great write up! I live in the 75019, too, and have wanted to go the past couple of summers, but we've been away for most of the screenings in past summers. This year, we're in Paris the whole summer, and this seems like a fun and original thing to do. Thanks for sharing your tips and the film schedule, too. Nice work. :)

I've noticed this happening a lot lately; waiters not giving you barely a moment to look at the menu before racing to take your order. I don't know if it's something they do to Americans, who are always said to be in a hurry, or what, but I find it really disconcerting. The last time it happened to me, the waitress actually got mad that we weren't ready to order literally seconds after we sat down.
