I certainly trust your opinion, Bertrand - maybe Kevin was just having a bad day. As for the workload, though, there was only one other table that night.

Hi Meg,

As far as I know, it's Vicky and not his Finnish wife Mari who you see in the restaurant. My own experience with Kevin is very positive, he may have been overwelmed with the workload when you dropped there.

"One nagging downside: I could stand a little more warmth from the team behind L’Autour d’un Verre. The waiter is friendly enough, but I haven’t once managed to squeeze a smile out of Kevin, the American who owns this place with his Finnish wife Mari. The natural wines on offer (including many small production Vins de Table) deserve an ambassador who is willing to explain them."

Perhaps you haven't spent much time around Finns? I'm guessing Kevin has (being married to one and all). As soon as I read that he owns the place with his Finnish wife, it all made sense.

Finnish people are truly the salt of the earth but are perhaps the least demonstrative, too! I speak from experience as I've been married to a Finn for 23 years now.
