Back in May, I spent the day with a journalist who wanted to know wast ist neu (what’s new?) in Paris. She was reporting for GEO SAISON (the German equivalent of National Geographic) and we traipsed around Belleville in the rain. We visited the artists at La Forge, had coffee at Aux Folies, looked at the grafitti on rue Dénoyez, and talked about Berlin and boys.
The resulting story (along with profiles of Clotilde Dusoulier from Chocolate & Zucchini and Alexandre Lenot from La Blogothèque) is out now. You can pick it up at newsstands from Bonn to Baden-Baden, or find an online excerpt here. The only problem: it isn’t in English.
Running the story through the handy Google Translator, we learn that I like Belleville because it is “approaching casual than the rest of Paris.” I like to hang at Aux Folies (translated as “One of the Craziness”) because “we can observe so wonderful people…Look at his hat on!” I’m guessing that it sounds better in the original German…
If you’d like to read more about this neighborhood in English, check out my profile of Belleville for Budget Travel.
And danke to GEO SAISON writer Andrea Walter and photographer Jens Bolt for making the time so wunderbar.
